Essex Tri Town Shared Health Initiative
Tri-Town Inspections and Environmental Health
Protecting Our Community Through Health Safety and Compliance
Inspector Focuses
The Tri-Town Inspector serves as the frontline of defense for public health safety across Middleton, Boxford, and Topsfield. By providing uniform inspectional services and rigorous enforcement of state and local sanitary codes, we ensure that our shared environment remains safe for residents and visitors alike.
Key Inspection Areas:
-
Food Protection Program: We conduct mandated risk-based inspections of all food service establishments, including restaurants, school cafeterias, and retail markets. This includes reviewing HACCP (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point) plans and investigating foodborne illness complaints.
-
Housing and Community Sanitation: Our team performs inspections to ensure rental properties meet the State Sanitary Code (105 CMR 410). We also oversee the safety and water quality of public and semi-public swimming pools and recreational camps for children.
-
Wastewater and Title 5: We provide technical review and field inspections for on-site sewage disposal systems (septic systems). This ensures that wastewater management across the Tri-Town area does not compromise our groundwater or public health.
-
Environmental Nuisances: Investigation and mitigation of public health nuisances, including trash accumulation, rodent control, and indoor air quality concerns.
